Nodding, Carrie listened to Tyler. "I haven't seen you around here before, that's why I'm so curious," she said, with a little laugh. She began to think that something was really wrong with him. Not in a mental way, but he looked and sounded depressed.
Turning to Euro, she led him into the paddocks, and let him loose, since the stallion was getting bored standing there. Euro sensed freedom, and trotted off. After a couple seconds, he got down on his knees, and rolled. Carrie chuckled, and walked back to the fence where Tyler was. "I don't know what I'd do without horses,"

At Carrie's last comment, a miracle of sorts occurred. A tiny hint of a smile appeared on Tyler's face, though washed away after lingering for a few seconds. Though it hadn't lasted long, and had been only a slight smile, it was a legitimate one. She was lucky, the first human being to earn a smile from Tyler in over a year. Not until now had anything anyone said made him even consider showing some emotion other than the somewhat depressed one he usually displayed.
"I could say the same thing." He said, as his expression reverted back to the same old Tyler, no evidence of the tiny smile left on his face. "I might not be here if it weren't for horses." He added. Of course, by here, he meant alive, but he wasn't going to say that out loud. If she knew that was what he meant, he didn't really care, it was true, there was no reason to be ashamed of the truth.

Carrie nodded, still watching her stallion, who was still rolling. She laughed, since Euro always made her happy, even when he didn't try. "Yeah.. amazing creatures they are," she said, quietly. Euro then got up from his roll, and trotted over to the human beings. He snorted, and then stuck his nose out at Tyler, curiously.

A few moments of silence passed between Tyler and Carrie as he watched the stallion's actions. When the horse approached, Tyler lifted his hand slightly and held it out towards the animal. Horses had intrigued him from the first moment he had seen them. They were huge powerful animals that could really do anything they wanted, and yet they responded so readily to their rider's commands. "What's he do?" Tyler asked Carrie, wondering what type of riding she did with him. He hardly noticed he had asked the question until after he had done so...what was it that was causing this sudden change in him. He never lead conversations, ever, and yet he was doing so now. He had almost never smiled in the presence of another human in the past year, but he had just moments ago. What had changed?

Carrie smiled, as the two bonded. She loved seeing how Euro approached people, and sniffed them, as if he knew them for his whole life. The horse really amazed Carrie, and she was proud to be his owner. She thought about his question. "Well.. we mostly do Show Jumping and Cross Country. Sometimes Dressage.. so I guess we do Eventing," she laughed. "Euro is actually a professional jumper, but he is also my buddy," she smiled, patting the ebony black Hanoverian.

Somehow, Tyler had gotten the feeling that Euro was a professional at something. The stallion was obviously in peak condition, top form, whatever you wanted to call it, he looked to be pretty close to perfect. It seemed like Honor would be forever in getting there. He was used to working her just about every day, and having been away for two weeks was killing him. Ah well, he would wait, he had to.
He had yet to ride the thoroughbred mare since she had been very near death when he had purchased her from the auctions, and it had only been six months since then. She could bear the weight of a saddle easily now, but when he had first brought her home, she had hardly been able to support her own drastically reduced weight. Looking at her now, she still looked to be the result of abuse, and some people had accused Tyler of being the one to inflict her with the torture she had endured, but all in all, she looked about 100 times better now than she did before, and he had never done anything to bring harm to her.
"He looks like a champion." He commented, looking the horse over again. Sure, in comparison to Honor any horse looked like a champion, but Euro did more so than most others he'd seen, and he'd seen a lot of horses in his life time.

Euro held his head high, sensing that the two humans were talking about him. Then with the frisk of his tail, he trotted off to the other fence, where a mare stood. He nickered, and bobbed his head, stretching his neck out, wanting to reach her.
Carrie laughed at Euro. Wow he can be a goofball. Sometimes, Euro doesn't look like a champion, just some goofy stallion, who stretched out his neck, thinking he's a girrafe. She smiled. "I guess. What breed is your horse?" she said, turning so she can face him.

"Thoroughbred." He replied simply, "though you'd never know it from her looks." She appeared to be more of a mix breed of sorts, and her overly thin form completely dissipated the thoroughbred excellence that she could become. The little mare still had the heart of a thoroughbred though. Not many horses would have had the will to go on living like she had in the months that she was tortured day in and day out with hunger, pain in her legs, rain rot on her back, lice in her formerly silky, now matted coat. Tyler had seen past all of that though, past the pain, the imperfections, the flaws. He had seen it in her eyes, that same look that he was accustomed to seeing in his own. A look of unwillingness to give in, but lacking the strength to go on. In each other, they had changed that.

Thoroughbred... What amazing horses they were. Their heart, and desire to run. To Carrie, Thoroughbreds were breath taking. She loved how they were so proud of themselves, and ran not cause their rider was making them run, but because they were born to. "Thoroughbreds are amazing.." she said, quietly, still in her mini reverie about the wonderful creatures.
The mare who was grazing in the other paddock, walked away from the fence, leaving Euro lonely. He snorted, and turned, trotting back to Carrie. The blonde laughed, and stroked her stallion's neck. "No luck, huh boy,"

"Most of them are." Tyler replied to her comment on thoroughbreds. He knew most people saw thoroughbreds as runners and runners only, but not Honor, oh no, she was anything but a runner. She ran seven races during her careers, all of which she lost because she was more interested in attacking the other horses than actually running. After that she was retired to be a brood mare, and from that her hate of horses grew into a hate of anything and everything that lived. She soon became too violent and went to the auctions. No one wanted her. She was to vicious to be trained, and too thin to go to the canner. She was left out in a small corral, hardly enough room to move. She developed rain rot all down her back, and her coat was infested with lice and many other parasites.
When Tyler had found the mare, she was standing in mud almost half way up to her knees, a complete mess, and anything but amazing in appearance. When he approached the corral, she'd pinned her ears back, and thrown her head up...as well as she could because of the weakness that was plaguing her. Most people would have written her off as lost, but not Tyler. He saw in her something that he saw in himself every day, and that one little something seemed to click between them.
He walked away from the auction that day, the title to the "ruined" mare in his hand. Within a few weeks he had her home, and started working on building her strength and trust. In six months they had come a long way in the short six months that he'd had her, but already there was something great forming in both of them.

Carrie nodded, since he was right. Not all Thoroughbreds were amazing. Only the ones that were trained very well when they were young. But it doesn't matter, since all horses are amazing to Carrie, in some kind of unique way. She sighed, since she thought how theses horses at Berlington were living happy lives, while other horses, are getting abused, sent to slaughter houses, etc. It terrified her, so she shook the thought out of her head.

The silence that then ensued was somewhat awkward, and Tyler wasn't exactly sure on how to break it. He really would have liked to be working with Honor at that moment, but since she wasn't here yet, he obviously couldn't. Honestly, he wasn't the most patient person in the world, and being forced to wait for anything just about drove him mad. Especially when it came to Honor. She was pretty much all he had left anymore, and because of that, he would spend every passing moment doing something for her when he could. He worked so he could afford to keep her, he trained her so that they could one day become great at what they did, he dealt with the endless stress of dealing with a less than perfect (mentally and physically) horse just so he could help her get better. Honor was his life now, really nothing else mattered.
Finally, the silence came to be too much, and he decided he had to say something to end it. "What do you think of this place?" He asked. He knew her opinion of the stable would be well informed since she'd obviously been there longer than he. Of course, by now he'd already made arrangements to keep Honor here so even if she said something about it that he disliked, Honor would still be staying here. But it didn't matter, so long as the silence was ended.

Euro trotted away from the two humans, his head up high, like an Arabians. He sure looked proud and confident in himself. She smiled, and looked at the ground, then hearing Tyler talk once again. She thought a little. This place was amazing.. well to her atleast. Mostly everyone was friendly, everything was clean, stalls were pretty big, green grass,etc.. There were tons of good things she can say about Berlington. "Amazing.. and I've only been here a month," she replied, happy that the awkward silence was over.

Tyler nodded as she spoke, still unsure of what to say in response, but unwilling to let the silence draw on again like it had before. Since he was so unaccustomed to leading conversations, he wasn't doing very well at coming up with things to say that would keep the conversation going. He was about to say something, that probably would have ended up making him look exceedingly dumb when the jingling of dog tags interrupted him. He turned towards the sound, and looked slightly surprised at what he saw.
A large German Shepherd was trotting amicably towards him and Carrie, his tongue lolling to the side, and a happy "grin" plastered on his muzzle. Tyler shook his head as the dog slowed to walk and continued pointedly towards him. A few steps away though, the dog changed his course and went more towards the girl. He stopped in front of her, and tipped his head to the side, his big brown eyes wandering over her for several minutes. After a few moments had passed, he moved to her side, and sat down right next to her so that his thick coat brushed against her leg. On his head there was a strange black spot that resembled a puzzle piece.
"Jigsaw." Tyler said to the dog who looked up at him with innocence written all over his face. The canine then got up, walked over to Tyler, and sat down next to him looking dejected as if he'd just been scolded for doing something wrong. "Sorry." Tyler said to Carrie, apologizing for Jigsaw's erratic behavior, "I guess he got tired of waiting for me."

Lost in her thoughts, Carrie was surprised to hear dog tags jingling. She was in awe. "Aww.. he is so cute.." she said, knealing down, and scratching him behind the ears. How random it was a dog came running up to them. She smiled. "Is he yours?" she asked, curiously. "I love German Shepherds. They are adorable, especially when they are puppies," she laughed, then realized how weird she sounded. Well she couldn't help it, since she loved dogs. "Sorry.. I'm like obssessed about animals," she laughed, nervously.
