A light spring breeze billowed across the sand of the beach. The moonlight sparkled off the gentle waves that rolled up onto the beach, then washed back into their proper place. It was a relatively warm night, warm enough to go outside without a jacket if you don't mind being a little chilly. Even despite that, it was very nearly a perfect night with not a cloud in sight, the stars sparkling across the universe.
Tyler had a lot on his mind as he stood on the beach waiting for Kendra. How was he going to tell her everything? Could he really do it? Did he trust her enough to tell her? Would he be able to tell her without completely breaking down and looking like a fool? He hoped the answer to each of those questions was yes. Either way, he was going to tell her. He didn't want her to fall for him, and he for her, without Kendra knowing really who and what he was, what he'd done, and why. The last thing he wanted was for her to get tied up in his mess without her knowing it.

Kendra walked slowly on the beach. She carried the sandals she had been wearing. She slowly walked toward Tyler who stood at the ocean's edge looking out into the distance. She could tell it was him. The way he was built, the way he stood. She could tell. She had fallen for him and fallen for him hard. The water gently brushed up against her bare skin near her feet. She stood next to him and looked up at him. She smiled. She know that Tyler was going to tell her more of his past. She knew there was something dark, but she couldn't guess what it was. She hoped that he trust her enough to tell her. She would understand. She was probably the most understanding person you would ever meet in your life. She knew this deep down in her heart that she could handle whatever he was going to say.

Tyler turned towards her at the sound of her feet approaching on the soft sand. A hesitant smile crossed his face for a moment but quickly faded. He was just so afraid of losing her...he was afraid what he had to tell her would scare her away...he was afraid that if she left it would destroy him...but most of all he was just afraid of not having her around anymore.
He wasn't one to beat around the bush, especially when what he had to say was so important. "There's part of me that wants to walk away," He said when she stopped beside him, "walk away and not have to tell you. But there's a bigger part of me that knows I have to tell you, that wants to tell you, wants you to know everything." He paused, looking her directly in the eye, hoping she would understand. "I'm not going to ask you to promise me not to tell anyone, and if when I've finished you feel the burden too much to bear..." He paused once more, searching for the words to say, "tell anyone you want to. The last thing I want is for you to get hurt."

Kendra listened carefully as the words came off his tongue. She blinked. She listened to each word carefully. She didn't want to miss anything. She looked down and still listened. She watched as the water covered the feet and then vanished suddenly. She looked back up and contained the same straight face. "I understand," she muttered. She didn't have to promise anything. It was already a good sign that she can accept whatever he was about to say. She hated making promises to people. It made her feel bond down by a single word that could control her life. She listened to Tyler. She would be honest with him.

Tyler took a shaky breath, and released it forcing himself to keep control of his emotions. "I told you about getting shot and sent to prison," he started, "well there's more to it than that. My father was an abusive drunk, rug addict, smoker, what ever else you can get into to destroy your life, and I was intending to kill myself on the street that day, though it seemed fate had other plans. I was shot, and sent to prison for five years. When I got out I found that my mom had divorced my dad, and was living with her boyfriend with whom she had a two year old kid." He paused, struggling to keep control of himself, just thinking about her was painful.
"He ended up killing her, and that put their daughter into my custody. I couldn't support both of us in the poor paying jobs down there, and decided to move up to the States. About a year later, the social services took her after they somehow found the record that had my supposed killing of that cop on it. Her foster father ended up beating her, and when I reported it, they ignored it. A few weeks later, she was dead. They called it an accident, but I...I knew it wasn't" He stopped again, the struggle internally putting up a powerful front. What followed was the hardest part to tell, the part not a living soul knew except himself, the part that had nearly driven him crazy having to bear it alone.
"I went to his house..." He continued hesitantly once more, "it was late, he was alone. I told him I knew, and he...he just had to make it worse by threatening to tell the police of our encounter, saying that they'd never take my word over his, which was true. I couldn't take it any more and I..." He broke off, dropping eye contact and letting his gaze fall to the ground as he fought for control. He closed his eyes for a moment and released another shaky sigh. He lifted his gaze lifted once more to meet hers, "I killed him, shot him in cold blood, and walked away." There he stopped, the rest was unimportant at this point.

Kendra felt the pain. Her chest felt like it was going to explode. She had such a good insight to other people's emotions. She sometimes even felt what they went through. The physical apart of the pain, anyways. She clapsed her hands in front of her heart. Her heart felt for his pain. She wanted to take it away from him and lock it away. She wanted his pain to become her pain so they could suffer it together so he wouldn't be so alone in the world anymore. Well, he wasn't alone. He had Honor and he had her.
She listened carefully. Her body froze slightly, but the emotion wasn't obvious in her face, though. I killed him, shot him in the cold blood. Those were his last words. She looked at the ground for a moment. She breathed in deeply. He understood why he did it. She just didn't understand why he did do it. She looked up. She cupped his face in her hand. She looked at him and smiled.
"Thank you for telling me. Ever since I was little, when I get attached to somebody like you for example. I feel the pain you feel on the inside. I feel that stinging pain in your chest. I don't know why I can. I just do. I understand how you're feeling the moment. You have to understand. I'm a very understanding person. You should know this by now. I don't care what happened then. I learn to face the future. Your story is now buried deep within my heart. I'll feel the same pain you've felt all your life. Sometimes I'll forget the pain. We're connected now. I don't know how to explain in. I'm apart of a martial art called jujitsu. In this art, you're allowed to go inside someone's head if you're in the blood line which I am from my father's side. He never trained in the art, though. I don't like going in someone's head. I'm not all that game on the mind tricks, though. I've trained almost majority of my life. I understand what you're going through, and I really do," she said.
She finished her little speech for him. She rubbed his cheek gently with her thumb. She smiled. She really did hate going inside someone's head. She did only if she absolutely had too like with her one friend, Rachael. She hoped that he understood what she was talking about. Jujitsu was a very different art to understand unless if you were in martial arts yourself. She smiled at him. She was really happy that he trusted her this much to explain to her about his past. She knew it was difficult for him to explain it to her, but he did. She was happy. He was good at heart and she knew this much. It was all she needed.
post; complete comments; yes. it's possible for people who are in the bloodline of jujitsu to go inside their head. i'm not even kidding. i actually know a guy who can do that. although, i'm not sure if he actually has gone inside my head, though. [/blockquote][/color]

Tyler let his eyes drop to the ground as the moment of silence drew on between them. He still feared the worst. He wasn't so much afraid that she would tell someone or that he would go to prison for the rest of his life, that didn't really matter anymore. He was more afraid that she wouldn't accept him anymore now that she knew him for what he was. Why did he find it so hard to trust people, to believe in them? Not even he knew the answer to that question.
At the touch of her hand against his face, he raised up his sight once more to lock eye contact with her. There was no more of that emotionless and empty mask anymore, it was all there out in the open. It was like he had been torn open and laid out for all the world to see. The funny thing was, there wasn't any anger in all the emotions that played across his face, it was just...sorrow, but a powerful grief that almost resembled death; it was as if his life had left him but he had been curse to continue living in this shell of a body.
He was seemingly half surprised by her response. Never before had he told anyone everything, and even then they'd all hurried away as if he were the devil in disguise. He wasn't exactly sure what to say, he hadn't expected her to respond like she did, and so had nothing prepared to say. "Thank you," He said finally, taking her hand in his, "for everything." Now that he was slowly learning to trust another human, maybe, just maybe the healing would go faster. Now that he had told someone, maybe the burden wouldn't be so hard to bear. Maybe now that he had laid himself open to her, he could learn to love again without fear.

Kendra smiled. She felt a connection between them. A strong and unbreakable connection that both of them created by telling them their inner secrets. She, with her jujitsu techniques and past faults and him with his past all together. She breathed deeply. She nodded her head when he thanked. "I'll do anything to help you," she said. She smiled. She felt the sorrow swelling in his face. She smiled. "Don't worry about holding anything back with me. A lot of people really don't understand how I can see inside their head and feel what they're feeling. I hope you can," she said. She never really told anything before about her jujitsu abilites apart from her parents.

Tyler attempted a slight smile, though it was hard. It felt good to get it out there and know that she didn't hate him for what he'd done, but it was still hard opening up old wounds that had never fully healed. Especially ones that he had never expected to tell anyone, especially that one. His fate sort of rested on her now. If anything were to ever happen between them, which he hoped it wouldn't, she could quite easily turn him in to the police and pretty much ruin his life. For some reason though, he had a feeling she wouldn't ever do that.
"I don't understand," Tyler replied, again after some time of silence had passed between them, "and I won't try to. But I'll take your word for it, and accept it as what you say it is. I trust you." It was strange how hard it was to say those words. It was even more strange, though, to hear them come out of his mouth. It seemed like a million years since he had uttered the word trust, and now that he had it felt strangely comforting.

She smiled. She felt his pain starting to slowly vanish. It would take a long time before it would actually disappear completely. Years, maybe. She understood that emotional pain was the hardest pain to get rid of. She lived with grief and pain majority of her life anyways. She smiled. "I know it's hard to understand. You'll have to do your best to understand. Jujitsu is a hard art to even begin to understand," she said. She gently rubbed her finger over his hand. She smiled. Tyler really was good person at heart. She knew he was. He would do anything to protect the people he loved. She would do that same for him, for Honor, for her horses, and her parents. She wanted them to feel safe with her and trust. She felt the connection growing with Honor. She smiled. Things were turning around for the both of them.

Tyler nodded slightly, as much as he would have liked to understand, he knew he couldn't...he'd never really believed in that sort of thing because he'd never really thought about it before. But if she said she could do it, he would believe her. After all, he did just basically tell her everything, including the secret that meant life and death for him. If anyone ever knew who he couldn't trust, he knew he'd be put in prison for life. If anyone ever told the cops, he wouldn't try to lie...he wasn't like that any more. Jigsaw had saved him, Honor had saved him, and now Kendra was helping him to stay saved and not go back to who he was before.
He wasn't exactly sure what to say, there wasn't much left to say anyway. They'd both spilled their stories, and now it seemed like words didn't matter all that much. Instead of saying anything, he just encircled her with his arms, and pulled her close in a firm embrace for a minute or two, then released her. He was about to apologize, but stopped himself...what was there to apologize for? "We should probably get back..." he said after a moment, "someone's bound to be missing you." They'd left the dance around midnight, by now it was nearly 2:00 in the morning. No one, except Jigsaw or Honor would be missing him, so he was only worried about her getting into trouble.

She tried not to stare into his eyes completely. Otherwise, she would lock into one of his past memories, and she really wasn't in the mood for looking into his past without him even knowing. Her hands were pressed against her chest. She laid her head gently against his chest as he hugged her. She felt his heart beating underneath his chest. She breathed in deeply as he gently pulled her away. She looked at his face, but didn't concrete on his eyes.
She blinked. She never really thought about it. Her parents really never mind how late she stayed out as long she wasn't alone and there was a reason why she was late out the night. "Don't worry about it. My parents are pretty understanding when I come back late, and I have a good reason. They trust me enough. I just have to be back by morning, though," she replied. This was true. Her parents would let her stay out as late as she wanted. They knew she would come back. She would have to explain why she was late all night, though.

Tyler smiled as she spoke, a good excuse was all she needed. Somehow he doubted if this would be a good excuse. "I don't think they'd be too happy if you told them you'd been hanging out, alone, on the beach, with a 24 year old guy they didn't know." He said with an ever so slight laugh, "and I wouldn't want you to have to lie about where you'd been and with who you were spending your time."
Even in just the way he didn't want her to get into trouble for this little thing was more than enough evidence that he wasn't who he'd been before. He really did care about her well being. Before, he wouldn't have cared at all if she got in trouble. Before, he probably never would have come here. Before, he probably would never have taken notice of her or anyone else for that matter. He was just glad to be a new person. Looking back he knew he'd been far below par, and even still was probably only just barely there, but he'd improved. Who would have thought that a broken and crazy thoroughbred mare could change his life like this?

She smiled. She punched him in the arm lightly. Her parents really never cared who she spent her time with. They were actually more comfortable if she was with more people. They didn't worry so much about her because of her training in jujitsu. They understood that she could easily hurt even kill someone if she had. "Don't worry about it. My parents would actually like to meet you. I've never really had a relationship with a guy this close before. I'm in jujitsu, remember? You don't have to worry about me," she said with a huge grin on her face. She knew he cared about her, and she cared for him. She wasn't really the kid that people had to worry about, though. She had her ways of protecting herself.

"If you insist" Tyler said with a smile as she spoke, though the smile faded almost as quickly as it had appeared. Their relationship...could it ever work out? Could they ever be more than just friends? She was quite a bit younger than he was, surely that would cause innumerable problems. He knew she had told him not to worry about her, but he just couldn't help it.
"Kendra..." he said, pausing a moment, "I know you're perfectly capable of taking care of yourself, but the last thing I want to do is hurt you..." He hesitated once again, not sure how this would all sound to her. "I don't really know about any of this, and I pray to God that nothing happens between us, but I can't help but be afraid that something will happen. You've done more for me in the short time I've known you than any other human's done my whole life, and I don't think I would be able to live knowing I'd wronged you."
He hoped she'd understand. Everyone else he'd ever cared for he'd ended up hurting in some way or another. He didn't want that to happen to her too. Maybe if she were older he wouldn't be so concerned about this, but she wasn't older, and for him it was cause for worry.
