Kendra walked through the park pretty late in the evening. She snuck out of her house again. She needed to get away from the stress she was under. Either the stress came from her parents or riding or school. She really needed to relax. Normally she would ride some more because that relived most of the stress, anyways. She sighed. She wore a pair of dark colored jeans with a small black t-shirt with the band *'Jump Start' across the front.
She had a thin black sweater covering over her long muscular arms. She released a large breaht of air. She saw her breath. It was cold. It numbed every fiber of her being. She shivered again. She saw a bench a little distance away. She walked over to the bench and sat down. There was a small pond sitting right before her. It was dark. The sun had already set and the cold air was beginning to freeze her body. She didn't care. She could handle herself if someone tried to attack.
She was in martial arts, after all. She smirked. She almost defeated her instructor in a sparring match, but he had way more experience than she did. She didn't care. She was strong and she liked being strong. She began humming a tune from her favorite band, Jump Start called All Around Me. It was a good song. She sighed. It was cold. She wondered if someone would join her here at this time of hour. She laughed. No one was crazy as she was to sit on a bench in the middle of the night. She left her cell phone at home so no one could find her. She would eventually go home. Maybe around dawn or so. She smiled. She was a little crazy, though. It was freezing out.

The jingle of a dog's collar tags filled the silent night air as a German Shepherd trotted amicably through the park. The big dog's thick coat kept him warm on cold nights like these, and he hardly noticed the low temperature. Although park rules requested that dogs stay on leash, this big canine was running free. His tongue lolled out to the side, and his eyes darted this way and that as he continued onwards. The bench and the girl on it came into his view, and he froze in his tracks. He looked at the girl through the darkness curiously for a minute or two, then turned to look back behind him, as if there was someone coming. When he was satisfied, he continued forwards towards the girl. He moved to where he stood in front of the her, and tilted his head to the side, as if asking what on earth she was doing there alone. He had a curious black spot on his head that resembled a puzzle, a marking that earned him his name, Jigsaw.
Shortly after the dog's emergence from the darkness of the night, a human's footsteps could be heard on the earth's surface, and a man emerged. He looked to be in his early twenties, though he almost seemed older. Not even so much as a hint of emotion was visible on his face, and he looked somewhat...depressed. There was a lot on his mind that night. This day in the history of his life was not one that he liked to remember. The dog looked towards him as the man drew near. When he was within about five feet of the girl and the dog, the canine jumped up and trotted to him, wagging his tail vigorously. Jigsaw lifted his front paws off the ground, and planted them on the man's chest. He took the dog's head between his hands for a moment, then pushed him down. He didn't mind the dog jumping up, it was something Jigsaw did only to him, and so it didn't bother him at all.
When the dog was back on the ground, he clipped a chain leash back onto the dog's collar and proceeded forwards. "Sorry if he bothered you." He said as he reached the girl, "Wasn't expecting we'd meet up with anyone this time of night." He hadn't been in the area for more than two weeks, and so wasn't all that familiar with the people's habits around here, but he had figured that not many people would be out in the part this late.

Kendra sat there on the bench wondering what to do. She heard a dog's collar jingle in the distance. She looked over and saw a shadowed figure in the distance with a dog walking with him. She blinked. Would he try something funny? He better not. She thought to herself. She didn't want to pay medical bills for a broken nose or something like that. The dog was a German Shepherd with an odd mark on his head. She smiled as the dog jumped onto the guy. She laughed. "Cute dog," she muttered. She held her sweatershirt closer to her body. She was getting colder.
She smiled. "No. He doesn't bother me. Can I pet him?" she asked. She waited for him to reply. She didn't wait. She kneed on the ground and placed her hand out for the dog to smell it. "Well...you don't get out much, then. I'm usually out this late. My parents don't care," she said with smirk on her face. She smiled. The guy was actually pretty cute. She smiled. "My name is Kendra," she said.

He had been about to say that she was free to pet him if she wanted, but she obviously assumed that she could, and he didn't mind at all. Jigsaw jumped at the chance as she knelt down, brushing past her outstretched hand, and pushing his nose into her face. He was quite a bit more friendly than most dogs of his breed, and never gave up the chance to lick someone in the face as a show of affection.
Despite Kendra's smile, none was returned. It had been a long long time since any human being had seen a smile cross his face, and it would be a while yet. He wasn't exactly what you would call a people person, but he wasn't anti social either. "Tyler." He said, replying with his own name. "and he's Jigsaw." He added, putting the dog's name out there. At the sound of his name, Jigsaw turned towards Tyler, studying him intently for a moment, before turning his attention back on the girl at hand. She was giving him more attention than Tyler was, so he'd stick with her for the time being.

She smiled, then started laughing as the dog tried to start licking her face. She started stratching his ears. She knew dogs like that. She smiled brightly. She was kinda depressed early, but the dog made her feel better, and the presence of Tyler made her feel better, too. A little at least. She stood up. She was somewhat shorter than Tyler. Well, then again. She was only a teenager. She smiled.
"Nice to meet you both," she said. She looked up at him and smiled. "So what brings you out here so late?" she asked. She tilted her head to the side as she pulled her sweater closer to her body. She should have brought a thicker sweatershirt. This one was too thin for this type of weather. It was spring, but it was just getting over winter.

The happy-go-lucky canine seemed to do just about everyone he came in contact with good. There was something about the way he seemed to love anyone and everyone no matter what they'd done that just gave people a sense of acceptance, and even if it was just a dog, Tyler knew better than most that that feeling meant the world to anyone. He suddenly realized she was talking and caught the end of her question. He shrugged slightly in response, "Just getting away from life in general." He said, though it was a lot more than that. It was more something along the lines of getting away from what he'd done in his life and the pressures it caused him to be confronted with. "What about yourself?" He asked. Jigsaw stood up from where he'd been sitting and came over and laid down beside Tyler, looking up at the two humans. That was another thing Tyler liked about him, he was exceedingly friendly and loyal which also created a feeling of acceptance, a feeling that there was someone who didn't care what you'd done in the past.

She shrugged. "Same reasons basically. My parents have been giving me a lot of stress with riding. Do you ride?" she asked. She figured he did, but she asked anyways. She wanted a conversation going between them. She smiled as she watched Jigsaw shift around. She wanted a dog, but she had Sidney and Raphael. She guessed that was enough, but she wanted another friend around. She was friends with Danni, the owner's daughter, but she wanted to know more people.
She was horrible at making friends, but she was darn good at keeping them. She sighed. "Guh...why is it so cold out tonight?" she asked suddenly. She was good at complaining, too.

"Not currently." Tyler replied to her question, "I'm training a horse though." He added. His little mare had been abused badly, and had hardly been able to support her own weight when he'd bought her. She'd only been able to have a saddle on her back for a month, and he was certain that she wasn't strong enough to bear the weight of a human. Especially an adult male. She was a scrawny horse still, not having quite gained back the weight she needed to to be healthy, and Tyler wasn't about to risk hurting her and destroy all the trust he'd worked so hard to build in her.
He had to admit, he wasn't too fond of the cold. Especially since he'd just moved up from California and Mexico before that, but he was dealing with it as best he could. "At least it's not so bad as it was a month ago." He said, knowing that it had been freezing only those short thirty days ago. He hated winter with a passion.

She nodded her head in agreement. Training a horse she thought. Just like her. She hadn't started training, yet, though. She was building trust with Danni first. She watched Jones, thought to make sure he wasn't hurting anyone. "Really? I'm training a horse, also. What kind of horse is it?" she asked. Jones. He was one hell of a story. He had a history with abuse and pain. She didn't deal with any of that, but she had really no love and affection from her parents. So you could say she was deprived, but she didn't care.
She thought about the gray stallion. He was probably standing in the corner of his stall looking evil as usually. What a crazy horse she thought to herself. "If you need help training, I'm here to help," she said with a smile. She would help with the actual event training part. She was good at that in her opinion at least.

"She's a thoroughbred." Tyler replied. Horses was one of the only topics that ever managed to hold his attention for more than a few minutes. Almost everything else he found to get boring after a while. No, he wasn't ADD or anything like that, just easily bored and had few interests. "Used to be a racer, but didn't get far in that world." She'd actually lost every race she'd ever entered. She was basically a failure in that field, and so they'd given up on her shortly after her career began. When Tyler found her though, she was so beat up and mistreated that no one, not even the canner had wanted her. In her though, he'd seen something that he'd seen in himself everyday. That was what pulled him in. She was broken and beaten, mistreated and abused by every authority ever put over her, the same way he was. It was that inability to go on alone but the unwillingness to give in that they shared. The two of them together found the strength to keep going, and both had made a lot of progress since then.
In response to her offer, he nodded, "I appreciate it." He said. There was a possibility that once he got Honor a little more decent looking and more reliable, he would take her up on that offer. There were some days where he either had to work long shifts and didn't have the time to work with her, or else he was simply too worn down from non-stop working that he didn't have the energy to work with her. It was on those days when someone to help out would be very handy.

She smiled nicely. "Thoroughbred, huh? Did she race? " she asked. She smiled. She thought of her darling Sidney. Her racer such a good horse. She thought to herself. The training Sidney was put through was one of the best training possible for a horse. She thought of Jones again. The basically wild mustang that she bought for Cross Country training. She could hardly touch the horse. He was in horrible shape. She wanted to begin training as soon as possible, but she couldn't.
She had to be able to care for the horse first. Build trust between them. She sighed. She was working so hard, but she couldn't do anything. She was gonna try to bring the horse into the paddock so he could get some exercise. She had an idea that might work with Jones, but she wasn't sure. She would attempt to place Jones in the paddock with Sidney. Sidney gets along with anyone basically. If Jones liked her, then she could calm him down. She didn't want to put Sidney in danger, though. That was her only problem.

"She did." Tyler replied, glancing down at Jigsaw, "or at least tried to anyway. Apparently she lost every race she ever ran." She had been terrible at running. Not that speed was the problem, she just had no heart, no desire for racing. What she was suited for was still a mystery. It was too hard to tell what a horse would be good at when they look so pitiful and emaciated as she had and still somewhat did. Even the best horseman in the world would have a hard time figuring out what the little mare liked to do.
National Honor was the little horse's registered name, though hardly a soul would ever know it. After all, any horse that comes in dead last in every race is obviously not worth a snippet in a local newspaper. Tyler didn't really care though, Honor was the little bit of inspiration he needed to keep going, and for that he was exceedingly grateful. He wouldn't give up that horse for the world.

She nodded her head. Well...if a Thoroughbred didn't race, then they performed in show jumping and dressage. She wondered to herself. She didn't have the heart of a racer like a normal Thoroughbred, like her horse; Sidney. She shrugged. "If you raise up her spirits, will she be just a leisure horse for riding around and no compeitions?" she asked.
She figured a horse could do that much. She sighed. "I have a horse that will begin training pretty soon. He's wild basically. I really don't know how to start training with him really. Have any suggestions?" she asked. She loved taking advice from other people. She smiled nicely and wondered what he would suggest.

"Haven't decided yet." Tyler replied to her first question, "She's so beat up right now that it's hard to tell what she's really like. As far as I can tell at this point she doesn't do anything along the lines of sports, but once she's more healthy, that could all change." Jigsaw suddenly jumped to his feet, and stared out into the darkness as if something was there. Tyler followed the dog's gaze, and could vaguely see the motion of a squirrel skittering along the ground. He smiled slightly without even realizing it, and knelt down to un-clip the leash from Jigsaw's collar. The dog sneaked slowly towards the squirrel like a cat stalking their pray, then took off like a shot, chasing the squirrel up a tree. He never barked though, but circled around the tree, looking up at the squirrel enviously. Tyler didn't even notice that he had smiled as the dog took off. It wasn't something he did very often with people around. In fact, there were probably no more than five people who ever had seen him smile.
He then turned back to Kendra to reply to her question. "I'm not exactly a professional on training." He said honestly, he'd only had Honor for six months and she was the only horse he'd ever trained. "But I'd say you should start with getting him to not only trust you, but to respect you and understand that he's gotta do what you tell him to." He hadn't really needed to work on the respect part since Honor was anything but wild, but he was still working on the crazy part. She wasn't well mentally or physically, and it was a struggle to work with a literally insane horse.

She nodded her head. She watched as Jigsawy stalked the squirrel into the tree. She smiled. She looked over at Tyler, and caught when he smiled. She thought to herself. She was special or at least good enough. She noticed that Tyler had a past that haunted him and all the emotion was expressed onto his handsome young face. She understood. She never dealt with horrid experiences, but she understood when someone else did. She knew how to handle it. She liked his smile. She hoped she could see it again.
She nodded her head as he spoke. It made sense. She was heading in that direction anyways. She clutched the sweatershirt closer to her body. She was cold, but she didn't care. She made it in colder weather with only a sweatershirt and jeans. She released a large breath of air. She saw her breath. It was pretty cold outside. She sighed. She wondered if her parents knew she was out of the house, yet. Probably not. They really didn't care about her as long as they could figure out where she was.
